Self Control, Self-Discipline and Respect are the cornerstone of our character development system. While we hope they will never need to use their Self Defense skills, we discuss and encourage using these three rules every day, not just in their karate class but more importantly at home and at school.

Real Self-Defense begins with confidence. Whether its stranger awareness, handling a bully or just being able to speak up for yourself, karate will give your child the confidence to handle difficult situations and carry themselves in a way that avoids them in the first place.

Is there structure? Definitely! Is it disciplined? Of Course! But let’s not kid ourselves here, these are children we are dealing with here and what do they want? FUN! And that is what they get.. in structured, disciplined way, and lots of it.

Learning to stay on task can be a challenge for many school age children, whether that is at home or at school. In our karate classes, we make sure to offer plenty of opportunities to work up to that laser-like focus that is so critical as kids grow up.
Mason was having difficulty listening and focusing in kindergarten last year. In just six months time he's made considerable improvement and I couldn't be prouder! He is learning so much more than a martial art. He's having a terrific start to first grade and I know that Villari's plays a significant part in that."

Through training in martial arts, kids learn to face challenges head on and set achievable goals. With support from their instructors and their parents, our karate students learn to be determined to achieve their goals and overcome challenges no matter what is in front of them.

Standing tall, developing a strong voice, and standing up to unhealthy peer pressure are staples of martial arts training in children. We help kids, especially through the challenges of the pre-teen and teen years, by helping students feel good about their abilities and take pride in themselves and their karate training.

Through the martial arts, students are encouraged to lead on a regular basis and volunteer in classes. Through this, our karate students develop the ability to take charge when others may not and do what needs to be done through group projects, sports teams, school plays, and other events.

Being in the moment is a key part of an adult’s progress in our martial arts program. Whether that is through a drill, or interacting with an instructor, or just tuning out stresses from the day, learning to center an adult’s thoughts helps to relieve stress and be happier.

To some adults, finishing what you start can be a challenge. Through regular progress and encouragement from the instructors, adult karate students are pushed to reach their goals that they set out and keep going until they succeed.

When we think of confidence for our adult karate students, it’s a bit different than with kids. Adults build confidence through losing weight, toning their bodies, letting go of negativity, taking pride in something that is their own, and, having the knowledge that they can appropriately defend themselves and/or their families.

When we work on leadership in adult karate classes, we look for opportunities to help students succeed by leading groups through certain exercises. By encouraging participation during classes, we help students come out of their shell. This allows the potential for more success at work and in other areas of life.
